I think all of us remember the tragedy of 9/11 – the collapse of the World Trade Center towers and the attack on the Pentagon … and all the people who lost their lives that day – both the ones on the downed planes and the ones in the buildings that were attacked.
Most of us probably remember exactly where we were – and what we were doing when we first heard the news.
I remember I was living in California at the time and on the telephone with a friend who was in New York – watching it happen. When he first told me, I thought he was joking … or that it was a TV movie or something like that. When I realized that he wasn’t joking, I was stunned – and doubly so, because I had previously thought it was just a joke.
I had no personal involvement with the people or the events of that day and I was stunned. How do you think one of the American Airlines pilots – who had previously flown that very aircraft – and who had almost been assigned to that very flight felt?
Listen to his story in his own words – a very moving story from a pilot who was almost there … but, wasn’t!
